A Magical Morning with Marina Llanos

This week our students were treated to a truly special experience this week as we welcomed acclaimed author Marina Llanos to our school. Bringing a vibrant energy and a wealth of cultural heritage, Marina captivated her audience from the moment she stepped into the room.

From Peru to the Page

Marina began by sharing her inspiring background with the students. Born in Peru, she is proudly bilingual, moving fluidly between English and Spanish. This unique perspective allows her to bridge cultures through her storytelling, showing our students the beauty and power of knowing more than one language.

Monsters and Melodies

The highlight of the visit was an immersive journey into her creative world. After introducing her collection of published works, Marina gave a spirited reading of her popular book, "Benita and the Night Creatures." The students sat spellbound as she brought the characters to life, but the fun didn't stop at the final page. To make the story even more memorable, Marina led the group in the Benita Theme Song that perfectly complemented the themes of the book. The room was filled with music and laughter, proving that stories are meant to be felt and heard, not just read.

The Power of Reading

To wrap up her visit, Marina left the students with a powerful message about the "magic" of literacy. She explained that reading isn't just a school subject—it’s a workout for the mind. She emphasized that every book we open helps make our brains healthier, bigger and stronger.

We are so grateful to Marina Llanos for sharing her time, her culture, and her passion for literacy with us. She certainly left our students inspired to pick up a book and grow their own "super-powered" brains!
