Embracing Creativity: Dot Day

Every September, millions of students and educators around the globe celebrate International Dot Day—a movement inspired by Peter H. Reynolds' classic picture book, The Dot.

The story follows Vashti, a frustrated student who believes she can't draw. Encouraged by her teacher to "make a mark and see where it takes you," Vashti starts with a simple dot. Seeing her small effort framed on the wall gives her the confidence to experiment, grow, and eventually inspire others.

Why Schools Celebrate Dot Day

  • Builds Confidence: Reminds students that everyone has creative potential, regardless of skill level.
  • Fosters a Growth Mindset: Teaches kids to overcome self-doubt and embrace the learning process.
  • Encourages Positive Impact: Inspires students to think about how they can "make their mark" on the world through kindness and originality.

How We Show Our Dot Day Spirit

To bring the lesson to life, our school celebrated by filling the hallways with vibrant patterns and colors as students and teachers showed up wearing polka dots. Dressing head-to-toe in dots served as a fun, visual reminder that every student is a key piece of our creative community, ready to leave a unique mark on the world.
