Making a Splash: 4th Grade Swim Week Success

The CFB Natatorium l was a hub of energy and splashes this past week as our 4th graders traded their textbooks for goggles. Swim Week proved to be an exhilarating deep dive into water safety, skill-building, and, of course, plenty of fun.
Finding the Right Current
The week kicked off with a placement test designed to gauge each student's comfort level and experience in the water. To ensure everyone received the right level of instruction, the students were divided into specialized groups. This allowed every swimmer to grow at their own pace.
Mastering the Fundamentals
For some, the focus was on the essential building blocks of swimming. Instructors worked closely with students on:
- Bobbing: Developing rhythmic breathing and confidence underwater.
- Floating: Mastering the art of buoyancy on both their backs and stomachs.
- Kicking: Building the leg strength and technique necessary for propulsion.
Leveling Up: Strokes and Techniques
More experienced groups took their skills to the next level, refining their form and endurance. The air was filled with the sounds of rhythmic breathing as students practiced:
- Freestyle (Front Crawl): Perfecting arm recovery and side-breathing.
- Backstroke: Working on steady kicks and staying level in the water.
- Diving Basics: Learning the proper head-first entry from the pool’s edge.
The Grand Finale: Free Play and Big Heights
After a week of hard work, Friday was all about celebration. The students were rewarded with well-earned free time, turning the pool into a playground of laughter.
The highlights of the final day included:
- Pool Toy Mayhem: Creative play with a variety of colorful floats and toys.
- The Leap of Faith: The diving well was the place to be, as students lined up to show off their form on the 3-foot springboard.
- The Ultimate Challenge: For the bravest souls in the class, the 10-foot high dive beckoned. There were cheers and applause as student after student, and some staff members, conquered their nerves and made a giant splash to end the week.
By the time the buses pulled away, the 4th graders left with more than just damp towels—they took home improved confidence, new skills, and memories that will last a lifetime. Great job, swimmers!
